The Role of Intuition in Healing

What is healing? What is a healer? Healing means making whole. Opening and developing our intuitive sense enables us to see and understand beyond the physical and is a bridge to reclaiming this wholeness. We all have this intuitive capacity, yet our overactive and judgmental minds get in the way of receiving this information. When a hunch, an intuition, an "ah ha!" does occasionally break through into our conscious mind, we have difficulty accepting or believing it.

Our culture does not support the validity of intuitive information. Yet "the times they are a’changing..." ; this is the Information Age, and the more informed we are, the more choices we have about how to respond in any given situation. Why not cultivate your ability to access intuitive information? You don’t have to wait for an intuitive message to appear - you can practice developing your intuitive capabilities so that kind of information is available to you whenever you ask for it.

Everyone can develop intuitive awareness - all it takes is intention and practice. Like tuning into a radio station, you learn to tune into a particular frequency to get information. After a while your awareness has a preset button for the intuitive information station. Every person has their own special language for intuitive knowledge - some hear words, some music, some understand through shapes and color, physical sensation or just a definite "knowing." We each have unique talents which determine how we best manifest healing in the world.

Intuitive information can be vital to understanding a health issue. A client came to me limping because of a painful arch in one foot. It had progressed to the point of it being uncomfortable to stand or walk. The condition was undiagnosed and the symptom was being treated with muscle relaxers which were ineffective. Working with her, I intuitively "saw" her lower leg as crushed. Upon questioning she related that her calf had been run over by a three-wheeler a few years before. I had received crucial information I needed to assist in the complete healing of her ?arch? in three sessions. Healing skills are greatly enhanced by the ability to access intuitive information at any time.

In our technological society we use techniques and formulas to accomplish a specific purpose. We look to models for an understanding of how these techniques are effective. For instance, in Chinese medicine there is a model for understanding the dynamics and qualities of the human physiology which includes the meridians, channels of energy that move through the body. If these energies are blocked, a technique used to reestablish the flow of energy is acupuncture. Just learning the technique is of limited value. The intellectual understanding of the model supports the use of the technique. Technique is not enough. You can be the world’s best dribbler, but if you don’t understand the game of basketball you will not be very helpful to the team. Most people want to learn techniques and many are willing to study the underlying model. Only a few take the time to develop the intuitive understanding to use these tools most effectively.

There are many models and techniques for healing that specifically work with the human energy field. Often a person utilizes a particular energy healing technique and assumes that healing is occurring as a result. There may be a noticeable improvement in a physical condition or some other type of positive feedback from the client. I call this “trickle down” healing; you utilize a technique and hope it affects a change for the better. When a person has developed their intuitive sense they actually know how the technique has effected an energy pattern. They can track the energy’s movement and are open to helpful intuitive information. The integrated knowledge of techniques, models and intuitive skills allows for a deeper interaction with the client and a much more specific and effective healing.

Do you know someone whom people gravitate to when they have a problem? is there a particular person you seek out when you need to talk about something difficult or important? Do they seem to be more intuitive than the average person? These people are natural healers and we recognize that on some level. Maybe that describes you. These people are usually good listeners. When you talk to them their whole being, their full conscious awareness, is brought into the present moment. They don’t necessarily have to say much or do anything for you to feel better - just their presence can create healing.

As we develop our intuitive awareness it deepens our connection to spirit and we automatically extend more of that healing presence to others. We affect those around us - family, friends, and co-workers - in a positive way. We can become more effective at creating harmonious solutions in any arena, whether as a banker, farmer, mechanic, salesperson, sister, brother, parent, gardener, or health professional.

You can be an adequate healer with techniques and models but you will never be truly great without developing your intuitive sense as well. Only by developing your intuition, and therefore your spiritual presence, can you become a profound healing force in the world. At the
School of Sahaj Energy Healing we emphasize intuitive development along with teaching models and techniques for energy healing. Our program facilitates integration of the intuitive and spiritual aspects of our being with the physical, allowing us to have a greater impact on all these aspects of healing.
